The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens - Paradigms and Principles (Summary)

 

        What is a paradigm?

            A paradigm is the way YOU see something. It your point of view. Sometimes paradigms can create limitations in your life. Here is an example of a paradigm.

                              "It's no use. My stepdad and I will never get along. We're just too different."

             This girl thinks that she will never get along with her stepdad. If that is her paradigm, it's likely for her that she will never get along with her stepdad. 

               Paradigms are really similar to glasses. It's like wearing glasses with the wrong prescription. If you think you're dumb, that belief will make you dumb.

               Think about it:

                        Are your paradigms of yourself helping you or hindering you?


                Principles

                        There are centers in life that might not work the best. Like being parent centered, boyfriend/girlfriend centered, or even being enemy centered. 

                         Being girlfriend/boyfriend centered is the easiest trap to fall into. Here is an example with two characters, Emily and Tom. Emily's actions can cause a big effect on Tom.


                               Emily's actions                             Tom's reactions 

                    Makes a thoughtless comment:                         "My day is ruined."

                        Talk's to Tom's best friend:                                  "Are they flirting? They're both betraying me."

                        "I think we should date other people:"              "My life is over. You never loved me."


                        There is an actual center that can work though, being PRINCIPLE CENTERED. Here are a several examples: honesty, hard working, service, and there are dozens and dozens more.


                            Think about it

                        When you are doing something today, think about what principle you should be using. Should you be using honesty, hard working, or maybe fairness?

Our fun trip

  Me my friend, my dad and mom, and my friends dad and mom, went on a trip to Yellowstone National Park! My friend is called Anna. She is one year older than me. She is 10, and I am 9. Anyways, Yellowstone was pretty cool. There were a lot of places to go! Old Faithful, Steamboat Geyser, Lower Falls, and a bunch more places! We also went to Moab, which is a REALLY hot place, and I mean it, REALLY HOT. My mom told me that the highest is like 46 degree celsius! I almost melted! So, me and my friend had quite a few fights in the car. BTW, we rented the car because our cars were too small! The ride to Yellowstone was about 8-10 hours. What animal would you be?

  What animal would you like to be? I would like to be a dolphin so I can be free in the ocean, also, I can also be very smart. But one bad thing about being a dolphin is you might be captured to go to the aquarium or something to perform, and I would hate that. So... maybe a dolphin isn't the best animal after all. Another animal I would like to be is a kitty. They are cute and most of them are fluffy. My mom used to own a kitty, but they sent it to someone else. But that was before I was born.
